Helping Sedona High School Students Dream Big

The beautiful recipients of the 2023 ACI Scholarship Grants: from left, Lupita Caballero Herrera; Luz Maria Hernandez; Alma Landaverde; Jackie Palmer; Macy Valdez, and ACI volunteer Anjali Vigna.

As part of the Asian Classics Institute’s community service arm,  we provide a yearly scholarship competition for deserving students within the Hispanic community to the college or university of their choice. As the home team is located in Sedona, Arizona, USA, we offer these awards to students graduating from the Sedona Red Rock High School.

These scholarship grants are donated from a team of generous supporters based in Taiwan. This year, we awarded five scholarships, worth $1,500 each, on May 24, 2023. Most of the scholarship recipients will attend Arizona State University, one will attend Yavapai College, and one will attend the University of Arizona.

These students are children of immigrants to the United States from Mexico. They work very hard and their goals are to go on to college to study and get advanced degrees. Without exception, they want to better themselves, their families and their communities. They want to give back and help others succeed.  They embody the goals that all our own most-cherished traditions urge us to do ourselves.  We are so proud of them!

We have no need to say a lot, because their thank-you letters to ACI say it all:

 Luz Maria Hernandez Chaparro

Dear Asian Classics Institute,

I want to express my sincere gratitude to you for making this Scholarship possible, and I am deeply appreciative of your thoughtfulness and support.

With this blessing I can focus on the most important aspect of my education: learning. Your generosity has inspired me to help others and give back to the community.

I promise you I will work very hard and eventually give back to others as a physicist, and I hope one day I will be ab le to help others achieve their goals just as you have encouraged me.

There are no words to describe how grateful I feel, it is really out of this world.
Thank you so much!

Your generosity has inspired me and I hope to pay it forward someday.

 Alma Landaverde

"The power of a good heart"

This is the best first quote I read in your website. For me it's not just a quote, it represents what you guys have done for me. Your kindness and good heart has given me the power to continue my journey. Knowing that life will put good people in my way, to help me to only continue but  be better.

 Lupita Caballero
